Dear Doctor Bernstein,
In October, 2004 I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2. My initial blood glucose reading was 440, and I was started on insulin. The PA who saw me suggested low carbohydrate diet, but also gave me the standard diabetes exchange sheets and a talk on the ADA treatment methods.
I went looking on the web for advice, and found your website. I purchased the book and was glad I did. Now, a little more than a month later, my blood glucose levels average in the 90s, with a good number of them in the 80s. I feel better than I have felt in a long time.
I’ve lost 17 lbs in the past month, and I think things will be OK. My game plan is to lose weight (I’m 100 pounds obese, probably why I got the diabetes in the first place) and use the injected insulin once a day to give my pancreas a break. Once the weight is gone, perhaps I can get off the medicine altogether.
By the way, I found a good herbal diabetes treatment, the herb Gymnema Sylvestre. I take tea made with 6g. of G. Sylvestre daily, and when I started doing that, things came down 5-8 points per reading on the average. There is a lot of research surrounding this herb for diabetes treatment, you might enjoy checking it out.
So, THANK YOU for your book and your outlook. I have certainly benefited from it!
