Testimonials

As a type two diabetic for 8 years, I was out of control, taking the maximum doses of orals, exercising like a fiend, following the American Diabetes Association's recommended diet, yet still getting worse and worse. Eventually, I had to start insulin. In December 1999, first 10 units before a.m. and p.m. meals, then 12, 14, 18, 20.... up to 40 units before p.m. meal and 25 before breakfast. I was doing exactly what the doctors ordered, ate right, exercised, took the prescribed orals and insulin, monitored 4 times a day, and had to take more and more insulin, gaining more and more weight.

Ultimately gained 45 pounds within a little more than 2 months after starting insulin. I was going crazy. Literally mad with the frustration. The doctors couldn't explain things to my satisfaction. I didn't understand why - when doing everything THEIR WAY - I would gain more and have to take more insulin. I went to the Internet, in desperation, trying to find some information to help me, some answers to my multitude of questions, some solutions.

When I came upon excerpts of Dr. Bernstein's book, I sat at my computer and cried. Finally, I was reading something which spoke to my problems, for the first time, I felt that things were making some sense. I read all I could on line, and immediately ordered the book from Amazon.com. It was at my door just two days later. In the first week following the Diabetic Solution, I lost 9 pounds, reduced my insulin by half. Now, 9 months later, I've lost 52 pounds and take almost NO insulin!

Only when I stray from the recommended diet, do I need to inject insulin.

I cannot tell you what a lifesaver this book has been. My endocrinologist first objected to following the book, argued with me, insisted I NEEDED to eat carbs to survive. At first, I listened to him somewhat, eating some carbs, taking insulin. Finally I realized, why FEED the insulin carbs? Why not STOP the insulin and thereby eliminate the need for carbs? I've done it!! It works!! It's been a lifesaver. I've never felt better.

I've never been in such tight control of my blood sugars, I haven't been this thin since before being diagnosed.

Thank you Dr. Bernstein, for sharing your wisdom with us. I honestly think I might not be here today, if I hadn't found such success in the pages of Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution.
